We, the members of the Western Yahooskin Band of Snake Tribe, in order to preserve our heritage, protect our traditions, strengthen our community, promote self-governance, and secure the welfare of present and future generations, do hereby establish and adopt this Constitution.
The name of this sovereign tribal nation shall be the Western Yahooskin Band of Snake Tribe of Wyoming.
The purposes of the Tribe shall be:
1. To preserve and promote the cultural heritage, traditions, language, and history of the Tribe.
2. To strengthen tribal unity and community welfare.
3. To protect tribal lands, resources, and sacred sites.
4. To support economic development and self-sufficiency.
5. To promote education, housing, health, and social services for tribal members.
6. To represent and advocate for the interests of the Tribe.
Section 1. Eligibility
Membership may be granted to individuals who:
Demonstrate lineal descent from recognized tribal ancestors; or
Meet membership requirements established by tribal law.
Section 2. Enrollment
The Tribal Enrollment Committee shall review applications and maintain official membership records.
Section 3. Rights of Members
Members shall have the right to:
Vote in tribal elections.
Attend tribal meetings.
Seek elected office.
Participate in tribal programs and activities.
Section 1. Governing Body
The governing body shall be known as the Tribal Governing Body
Section 2. Composition
The Tribal Executive Council shall consist of:
1. Chairperson
2. Vice Chairperson
3. Executive Treasurer
4. Executive Secretary
5. Three Executive Council Members
6. Sergeant At Arms
The Tribal Lower Assembly Shall Consist of;
1. Speaker Of Lower Assembly
2. Nine Lower Assembly Members
3. Sergeant at Arms
4. Lower Assembly Clerk
Council members shall serve four-year terms and may seek one re--election for another term max.
Section 1. Voting Age
Members eighteen (18) years of age or older shall be eligible to vote.
Section 2. Elections
Regular elections shall be held every time a tribal politician term ends.
Section 3. Election Committee
An independent Tribal Election Committee shall oversee all elections.
Section 1. Tribal Lower Assembly
The Tribal Lower Assembly shall consist of all non-executive voting members.
Section 2. Executive Tribal Council
The Executive Tribal Council shall consist of all executive voting members.
Section 3. Tribal Meetings
- Tribal Lower Meetings shall consist on every month on the 1st unless posted otherwise by the Speaker of The Lower Assembly.
- Tribal Executive Meeting shall consist on the last day of every month unless posted otherwise by the Chairperson or Vice Chairperson.
- Special Tribal Meetings may bale called upon by majority vote from tribal citizens or 2/3 of governing body.
The Tribe may establish a Tribal Court to:
- Interpret tribal laws.
- Resolve disputes.
- Protect the rights of tribal members.
- Judges shall be appointed by the Tribal Executive Council and confirmed by the Tribal Lower Assembly.
